High Dynamic Range Photography

ISO 100     f/22     1/8, 1/30, 1/8
I focused on leading lines with this shot, and I chose this location because I hung out here all the time with my friends when I was little, and I knew it would be great for leading lines. The light in this photo really changed the photo because the sun made it a lot more dynamic.

ISO 100     f/22     1/4, 1/15, 1/60
I knew that the Climbnasium would be a perfect spot for the different perspective, because at first glance it is just a boring barn. If you look from an angle, or on the inside (see motion photos) it can look really dynamic and interesting. I shot here because I spend so much time here. Without the sunlight, this photo would be really dark.

ISO 100     f/22    1/5, 1/20, 1/80
As a child, I spent a ton of time at Imagination Station with my family. It is clear to see that this image is almost perfectly symmetrical, so it works really well for this shot. The light makes this photo looks looks interesting because the background is dark.

ISO 100     f/22     1/1, 1/5, 1/20
My patio is very new to my family, because we only finished it about a month ago. But it tells an interesting story because for the first few years we owned the house it was just a concrete slab. The tiki torches are very interesting visually, so I thought they would be interesting to frame with. The light travels through the torches and makes it look more interesting.

ISO 100     f/22     1/6, 1/25, 1/100
At Adams Ricky, which is where Imagination Station is, there is this statue. I went with the intension of only taking the playground photo, but I always find this statue cool and I knew it would work perfectly for the repetition shot. The light in the photo makes the brass shine.

ISO 100     f/22     1/2, 1/10, 1/40
The playset looks very dynamic because of the bright light. I had this playground as a child, and it was always my favorite thing. It means a lot to me, and it is now at my aunts house. There is a really interesting shrubbery behind it, which I knew would be dynamic enough to hold its own in an asymmetrical balance shot.

I do really like the look of HDR shots. The painterly appearance is very dynamic, and I hope to continue taking pictures that look like these.

Together, my images tell a story of my childhood. All of the images provoke memories that have, and they make me happy to look at. Also, I think that they still are dynamic that doesn't know my stories and have my memories. There is a stronger message between the images when I really think about what I would like to photograph before hand.

HDR Article Notes

  • HDR= post-processing method which allows to dramatically increase the dynamic range of a picture by merging different exposures of the same scene
  • Neutral Density Filter ------> Details in all areas of the photograph
  • You need pictures of the same scene under different exposures and an editing software
------> Photomatix Pro<------

Misconceptions:
  • High dynamic range images always look fake and/or painterly
  • You need a tripod
  • You can always use HDR if you want to
  • There's always an HDR alternative
  • HDR is automatic

Sketchbook Identity Cover Project

My quote is "we shall never know the good that a simple smile can do". This is a quote from Mother Theresa. I chose this quote because it is something that I live by every day of my life. I think that a smile is an important thing that can make the world a better place.

I identify myself as a goofy person, but also serious when I need to be. I like to be colorful and fun all of the time. I did not spend time making my overlays perfect because I wanted it to look sort of raw and thrown together and dorky.

I really like the way that my sketchbook cover turned out. The only thing I wish I did was print something else out to collage over the brown construction paper.

Assignment #4 Personal List

Personal List:

1. Hershey Park
I would take a picture of Hershey Park because I have been going there
with my grandma since I was little, and I now go there with my friends all
of the time. It has a lot of value to me.
2. Old Playset
The old playset that I had in my backyard as a child is now at my aunts
house. They are soon going to get rid of it, and therefore I have been
sentimental about it and reluctant to get rid of it.
3. Patio
I would take a picture of the patio at my mom's house, because when we
bought the house it was just a concrete slab. We worked on it and made the
       space into an amazing spot.
4. Imagination Station
I went to Imagination Station all of the time as a child. My mom took my
brother Joey and I to the park every saturday, and I have a lot of amazing
       memories there.
5. Piano Room
I have been playing the piano since I was in the first grade, so my little
stand up piano means a lot to me. When I think of my hobbies or interests,
piano always comes to mind. Also, the room that the piano is in has a lot
of interesting elements, a lot of which have sentimental value.
6. Climbnasium
I love the Climbnasium, because I spend so much time there. The people there
are like a second family to me. When I fist started climbing I was younger
so I have done a lot of growing and developing as a person since I have
       started to go there.
7. Toy Store
I have always loved toys, and from the start my favorite spot was the wall
of stuffed animals. I used to collect stuffed animals, so these spots have
       sentimental value to me.
8. Back Boardwalk
In the area behind my dad's house, there is a boardwalk that connects to a
big circular pathway. My friends and I used to spend a lot of time playing
back there, so the picture would have a big story to me.

Favorite Internet HDR Shots

School HDR Photography

I think that this photo is representative of Cumberland Valley because the football games are the place that we show the most school spirit. Everyone loves CV the most at the football games, so I thought it was appropriate to photograph the home entrance.
 ISO 100      f/22      1/125, 1/30, 1/8

To represent the academic side of the school, I took a photo of the library. I like the color and line in this photo a lot. It makes the basic books look very interesting.
 ISO 400      f/22      1/4, 1.0, 4.0

I really like the way this picture looks because it has asymmetrical balance, and I like the focal point of the American flag. Also, the sky looks interesting.

Favorite Summer Photo

This is my favorite photo from the summer that I took at a road outside my neighborhood. I like the composition and simplicity of it. :)
