High Dynamic Range Photography

ISO 100     f/22     1/8, 1/30, 1/8
I focused on leading lines with this shot, and I chose this location because I hung out here all the time with my friends when I was little, and I knew it would be great for leading lines. The light in this photo really changed the photo because the sun made it a lot more dynamic.

I knew that the Climbnasium would be a perfect spot for the different perspective, because at first glance it is just a boring barn. If you look from an angle, or on the inside (see motion photos) it can look really dynamic and interesting. I shot here because I spend so much time here. Without the sunlight, this photo would be really dark.

ISO 100     f/22    1/5, 1/20, 1/80
As a child, I spent a ton of time at Imagination Station with my family. It is clear to see that this image is almost perfectly symmetrical, so it works really well for this shot. The light makes this photo looks looks interesting because the background is dark.

ISO 100     f/22     1/1, 1/5, 1/20
My patio is very new to my family, because we only finished it about a month ago. But it tells an interesting story because for the first few years we owned the house it was just a concrete slab. The tiki torches are very interesting visually, so I thought they would be interesting to frame with. The light travels through the torches and makes it look more interesting.

ISO 100     f/22     1/6, 1/25, 1/100
At Adams Ricky, which is where Imagination Station is, there is this statue. I went with the intension of only taking the playground photo, but I always find this statue cool and I knew it would work perfectly for the repetition shot. The light in the photo makes the brass shine.

ISO 100     f/22     1/2, 1/10, 1/40
The playset looks very dynamic because of the bright light. I had this playground as a child, and it was always my favorite thing. It means a lot to me, and it is now at my aunts house. There is a really interesting shrubbery behind it, which I knew would be dynamic enough to hold its own in an asymmetrical balance shot.

I do really like the look of HDR shots. The painterly appearance is very dynamic, and I hope to continue taking pictures that look like these.

Together, my images tell a story of my childhood. All of the images provoke memories that have, and they make me happy to look at. Also, I think that they still are dynamic that doesn't know my stories and have my memories. There is a stronger message between the images when I really think about what I would like to photograph before hand.

  1. Which picture goes with...
    Symmetrical balance
    Imagination Station
    Repetition / pattern
    The sculpture
Different point of view / perspective
    Climbnasium
    Asymmetrical balance Playset

    Framing
    Patio with flower pots
    Lines (leading, diagonal, horizontal, vertical)
    Sunlight/wooden porch

Which photo has the best composition? Why?
The picture with the sun shining through with the wooden porch has the best composition because its very eye catching with the houses in the background along with the sun shining through making the porch more dynamic and noticeable.
Which photo would you hang on your wall? Why? The patio with flower pots it shows good colors coming through but not too much and its eye catching.
Which photo could use a little work? What needs done? (composition/lighting/cropping/camera angle/camera technique) The picture with the Climbnasium because it shows a good different point of view and a good perspective but it is a little blurry on the bottom of the photo and could be focused a little more but the overall image with the editing still looked good.

When looking at the entire set of images what do they say about the photographer? Can you determine anything about the person by looking at their photos? Do they tell a story or are they just a collection of images? By looking at this photographers photos I can tell that she enjoys being outside but also likes adventure by going to different places and having fun with where she goes.
